Tuesday 22nd to Tuesday 29th October 2024

A cruise of enticing variety as Hebridean Princess cruises south from Oban to her winter home on the Clyde. This spellbinding cruise takes in a wonderful diversity of landscapes from the southern Inner Hebrides to the Firth of Clyde islands.

Our thanks to guest John Noorani for many of the images used in this weeks cruise log.

Tuesday 22nd October

For the last time this season, guests embarked in Oban and we commenced our journey south, anchoring overnight off Craobh Haven.

Wednesday 23rd October

Ashore at Craobh Haven, guests travelled to Arduaine Gardens, an exotic coastal garden in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.

During lunch we sailed to Ardfern for our afternoon visit to Kilmartin Glen Museum, home to thousands of ancient treasures and prehistoric monuments.

We anchored overnight off Crinan.

Thursday 24th October

Guests were tendered ashore at Crinan for morning walks along the towpath of the canal, built by Rennie and Telford to link the Firth of Clyde with the Western Isles during the heyday of sail.

Our afternoon port of call was the pretty village of Tayvallich for afternoon walks along the shore of Loch Sween.

We remained at anchor overnight off Tayvallich.

Friday 25th October

During our morning cruise around the Mull of Kintyre, guest speaker Derek Alexander gave the first of his talks in the Tiree Lounge.

We shall arrive and berth alongside in Campbeltown tomorrow afternoon where guests can visit the Springbank Distillery.

We remained alongside in Campbeltown overnight.

Saturday 26th October

After a morning spent cruising the Killbrannan Sound and into Loch Fyne, guests were tendered ashore at Strachur in the afternoon for a visit to Ardkinglas House, the former resident of Sir Andrew Noble.

We anchored overnight off Ardrishaig, Loch Fyne.

Sunday 27th October

At the pretty village of Ardrishaig, guests enjoyed morning walks ashore at the other end of the Crinan Canal!

Over lunch we sailed to Tarbert, Loch Fyne, for an afternoon visit to Robert the Bruce’s ruined castle.

We anchored overnight in Kilchattan Bay.

Monday 28th October

Our final port of call was Rothesay, Isle of Bute from where guests travelled to Mount Stuart House for a guided tour. Ancestral home to the Marquess of Bute, this neo-Gothic mansion is an eccentric, flamboyant mix of architectural styles.

The final afternoon was spent exploring Rothesay, including the Victorian toilets and Rothesay Castle.

The farewell gala dinner was held alongside our berth in Greenock where we remained overnight.

Tuesday 29th October

Disembarkation took place after breakfast at the Greenock Ocean Terminal.
