Ramsgate is a seaside port town and civil parish in the district of Thanet in eastern Kent. It was one of the great English seaside towns of the 19th century and the only “Royal” harbour in the country. King George IV granted its Royal designation in 1821 in appreciation of the town’s hospitality when he embarked with the Royal Squadron from Ramsgate for Hanover.
