Isle of Benbecula

This low-lying and windswept isle is barely 6 square miles (15.5 km2) in area, carpeted by machair in the west and peaty moorland in the east. Long serving as a stepping-stone between the Uists, Benbecula was Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hiding place before his legendary escape to Skye, disguised as Flora MacDonald’s maid.
